Description

A delightful homemade pizza that combines savory hot Italian sausage with creamy mozzarella and a touch of sweetness from raw honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Prepared Pizza Dough, at room temperature
  • 1/41/2 cup White Sauce
  • ~1/2 cup Mozzarella, shredded
  • ~1/2 cup Smoked Mozzarella
  • 12-16 oz. Hot Italian Sausage, casings removed, browned and crumbled
  • 1/4 Large Red Onion, sliced into thin rounds
  • Drizzle of Raw Honey, to finish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Let dough sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes, preferably 45 minutes.
  3. Remove casings from sausage and brown over medium-low heat, breaking apart with a wooden spatula into small crumbles.
  4. Drain the sausage and set aside.
  5. Make the White Sauce (recipe available in the Wild Palms Pizza post).
  6. Lightly coat a quarter sheet pan with olive oil and set it near your assembly station.
  7. Roll the dough out on a floured surface to roughly 9′ x 13′ and lay it in the sheet pan.
  8. Spread an even, thin layer of the white sauce and sprinkle a layer of mozzarella.
  9. Add sausage and more cheese, then layer with onions and additional cheese (alternating between regular and smoked mozzarella).
  10. Continue layering until all the sausage is used up and finish with a layer of cheese.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is browned and bubbly.

Notes

Experiment with different toppings and cheeses for unique flavors. Letting the dough rest enhances its flavor and texture.
