Description
A crispy tofu dish bathed in a spicy, sweet, and fragrant Szechuan sauce, delivering a flavor explosion with every bite.
Ingredients

- 1 block firm tofu
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 tablespoon tamari (or soy sauce)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder
- 1 tablespoon Szechuan peppercorns (optional)
- Chili flakes to taste
- Green onions for garnish
Instructions
- Press the tofu to remove excess moisture and cut into cubes.
- Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch until evenly covered.
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu until crispy and golden on all sides, then remove from the pan.
- In the same pan, add sliced bell pepper and sauté for a couple of minutes.
- Mix together tamari, maple syrup, Chinese five spice, and chili flakes in a small bowl, then pour this sauce into the pan with the peppers and stir.
- Add the crispy tofu back to the pan and gently toss to coat in the sauce.
- Serve hot and garnish with chopped green onions.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, use tamari instead of soy sauce. Fresh vegetables such as broccoli or carrots can also be added for variety.
