Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- Coarse salt for topping
- Cinnamon sugar or parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Mix the sourdough starter, flour, sugar, and salt until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 120-240 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and roll each into a long rope. Shape into a pretzel.
- Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda. Gently place pretzels in the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with coarse salt (or cinnamon sugar/parmesan cheese if desired) and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For sugar substitutes, consider using stevia, monk fruit, or allulose for a healthier option.
