Description

Delicious and festive Shamrock Pretzels perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Green food coloring
  • Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  5. Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into shamrock shapes.
  6. In a pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
  7. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
  8. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Once cooled, add green food coloring for decoration if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Feel free to add sprinkles or icing for extra decoration.
