- 1 lb ground beef or turkey
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups water or beef broth
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat in a large pot. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
- Pour in water or broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and let simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Serve hot, optionally garnished with cheese, sour cream, or green onions.
Notes
For a vegetarian version, use all beans and vegetable broth instead of meat and beef broth. Adjust seasonings to taste.
