Description

A classic French dessert featuring delicate layers of flaky pastry, custard, and whipped cream that create a delightful symphony of textures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 cup water, iced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup custard or pastry cream
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix the flour and diced butter in a bowl until crumbly.
  3. Add iced water gradually until the dough comes together.
  4. Roll out the dough and fold it several times to create layers.
  5. Roll it out again and cut into rectangles.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool completely.
  8. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  9. Layer the baked pastry with custard and whipped cream; repeat with additional layers.
  10. Dust the top layer with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Keep ingredients cold for a flakier pastry, and experiment with flavors for a unique twist.
