Description

A nostalgic Southern dessert combining creamy custard, fresh bananas, and vanilla wafers that brings warmth and joy to every family gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 3 ripe bananas

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, sugar, flour, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. Whisk egg yolks in a separate bowl.
  4. Gradually add some of the hot mixture to the yolks.
  5. Return to the saucepan.
  6. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in butter and vanilla.
  8. Layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and the pudding mixture in a serving dish.
  9. Repeat layers and end with pudding.
  10. Chill in refrigerator for at least 120 minutes before serving.

Notes

Sift the flour before use for a smoother pudding. Use fresh bananas for the best flavor, and chill for at least 2 hours for optimal texture.
