Description

Delightfully sweet and crispy, these Fried Sweet Plantains offer a taste of Caribbean comfort in every bite, perfect as a side dish or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large plantains, peeled and sliced on a bias
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (or any neutral oil)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Creole Cajun Seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 teaspoon packed brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Slice the plantains on a bias, at an angle, about 1/2-inch thick.
  2. Heat the oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the plantain slices in batches once the oil is hot.
  4. Fry the plantains for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and slightly crisp.
  5. Set the fried plantains onto a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  6. Season if desired with Creole seasoning.
  7. Serve immediately as a snack or alongside main dishes.

Notes

Make sure to avoid overcrowding the pan while frying for even cooking.
