- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
- Mustard or cheese dip, for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into footballs.
- Boil each pretzel bite in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel bite with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Serve warm with mustard or cheese dip.
Notes
- For a fun twist, use food coloring to dye the dough before shaping.
- These pretzel bites can be made ahead of time and frozen.
