Description

A comforting dessert made with stale bread soaked in creamy custard, served with a rich whiskey sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups of stale bread, cubed
  • 4 cups of milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of raisins or currants (optional)
  • 1/2 cup of whiskey (for sauce)
  • 1/2 cup of butter (for sauce)
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar (for sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the cubed bread and milk in a large bowl. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to soak.
  3. Beat the eggs in another bowl, then mix in the sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  4. Combine the egg mixture with the soaked bread and add raisins or currants if using.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes until set and golden brown on top.
  7. Melt the butter in a saucepan for the whiskey sauce, add the whiskey and powdered sugar, then stir until smooth.
  8. Serve the bread pudding warm, drizzled with whiskey sauce.

Notes

Use high-quality bread like sourdough or brioche for better flavor. Don’t rush the soaking time for a creamier texture.
