Description

Deliciously fried dough squares that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, perfect for drizzling with honey or dusting with powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening or butter
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Honey for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the shortening or butter and mix until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add warm water, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a few minutes.
  5. Roll it out to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into squares.
  6. Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
  7. Fry the dough squares until they puff up and are golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  8. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with honey before serving.

Notes

For a twist, try adding cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for extra flavor. Ensure oil temperature is maintained for optimal frying.
