Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup colored sugar for decoration


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  6. Add buttermilk as needed to moisten the dough.
  7. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass, and sprinkle with colored sugar.
  9. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
  10. Let cool on wire racks.
