Description

This savory ground beef orzo recipe is a one-pot, creamy, and comforting dinner perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekends. A hearty pasta dish with orzo, lean ground beef, and a tomato cream sauce your whole family will love.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • ½ medium sweet onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup uncooked orzo
  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  • ¾ cup beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, undisturbed.
  2. Add chopped onion and cook another 5 minutes, breaking up beef.
  3. Stir in garlic, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and orzo. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato sauce, beef broth, cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
  5. Reduce heat and cook uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender.
  6. Remove from heat. Stir in parmesan and spinach. Cover for 5 minutes.
  7. Season with salt and pepper, and serve hot.

Notes

Tip: Stir regularly while simmering to prevent sticking. If the orzo absorbs too much liquid, add a splash of broth. Let it sit covered before serving to thicken naturally.
