Description
This savory ground beef orzo recipe is a one-pot, creamy, and comforting dinner perfect for busy weeknights or cozy weekends. A hearty pasta dish with orzo, lean ground beef, and a tomato cream sauce your whole family will love.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- ½ medium sweet onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 cup uncooked orzo
- 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
- ¾ cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 2 cups baby spinach
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat for 5 minutes, undisturbed.
- Add chopped onion and cook another 5 minutes, breaking up beef.
- Stir in garlic, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and orzo. Cook for 1 minute.
- Add tomato sauce, beef broth, cream, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat and cook uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender.
- Remove from heat. Stir in parmesan and spinach. Cover for 5 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper, and serve hot.
Notes
Tip: Stir regularly while simmering to prevent sticking. If the orzo absorbs too much liquid, add a splash of broth. Let it sit covered before serving to thicken naturally.
