Description
A delicious and creamy casserole that combines the flavors of French onion soup with tender potatoes.
Ingredients

- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon thyme
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onions until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased casserole dish.
- Spread half of the caramelized onions over the potatoes.
- Pour half of the cream mixture over the onions.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cream mixture.
- Top with shredded cheese.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes
- For a lighter version, you can substitute half-and-half for heavy cream.
- Feel free to add cooked bacon or ham for extra flavor.
