Description

A delicious and creamy casserole that combines the flavors of French onion soup with tender potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Gruyère or Swiss)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onions until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased casserole dish.
  5. Spread half of the caramelized onions over the potatoes.
  6. Pour half of the cream mixture over the onions.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and cream mixture.
  8. Top with shredded cheese.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  11. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
