Description

Tender meatballs coated in a sticky-sweet glaze with a burst of flavor that evokes warm memories and family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground pork or beef
  • 1/4 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Minced ginger
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup Hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon Water
  • 1/4 cup Finely chopped scallions
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  3. Combine ground pork or beef, breadcrumbs, 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, egg, sesame oil, salt, and pepper in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.
  4. Form the mixture into meatballs the size of golf balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for about 20–25 minutes, or until cooked through.
  6. Whisk together 1/2 cup hoisin sauce, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon water in a small saucepan and simmer for 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Transfer cooked meatballs to the saucepan and coat them thoroughly in the glaze.
  8. Mix together finely chopped scallions, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, and sugar to create a scallion sauce.
  9. Serve the saucy meatballs hot, garnished with scallion sauce on the side.

Notes

Consider using sugar substitutes for a healthier option. These meatballs can also be frozen for up to three months.
