Description

A wholesome twist on traditional burgers, these Oven-Baked Cabbage Burgers use thick slices of cabbage as buns, filled with seasoned meat or plant-based alternatives.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small head Cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for brushing)
  • 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options)
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 large Egg (optional, for binding)
  • 1 cup Cheese (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
  3. Slice the cabbage into thick rounds, creating sturdy “buns.” Brush each slice with olive oil and sprinkle with a bit of salt.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, sautéed onion, garlic, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and egg (if using). Mix until well combined.
  6. Take a portion of the meat mixture and mold it into patties, placing one on each cabbage slice.
  7. Sprinkle cheese generously on top of each patty.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the cheese is bubbly.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before carefully removing the cabbage burgers from the baking sheet.
  10. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Enjoy these cabbage burgers as a low-carb, nutritious alternative to traditional burgers. They can be made ahead for meal prep and reheat beautifully.
