A delicious and hearty breakfast casserole inspired by the classic Monte Cristo sandwich, perfect for brunch gatherings.

- 8 slices of bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
- 1 cup diced ham
- 1 cup diced turkey or chicken
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the bread slices in the bottom of the dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread layer.
- Add the diced ham and turkey, then sprinkle with Swiss cheese.
- Layer the remaining bread slices on top and pour the remaining egg mixture over everything.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes or until the casserole is set and golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter version, add more maple syrup to the egg mixture.
- Feel free to substitute the meats with your favorites or use a vegetarian option.
- This casserole can be prepared a day in advance for convenience.
