Description

Learn how to make the perfect Martabak, a delicious stuffed pancake that is a favorite street food in many countries.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup minced meat (beef or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (optional)
  • Chili sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, water, salt, sugar, and baking powder until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Let the batter rest for about 30 minutes.
  3. In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
  4. Pour a ladle of batter into the skillet, spreading it evenly to form a thin pancake.
  5. Cook until the edges start to lift and the bottom is golden brown.
  6. Add the minced meat, green onions, and cheese (if using) on one half of the pancake.
  7. Crack an egg over the filling and fold the pancake in half to cover the filling.
  8. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the egg is set and the pancake is crispy.
  9. Remove from the skillet and cut into pieces.
  10. Serve hot with chili sauce.

Notes

  • Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite ingredients.
  • For a vegetarian version, use tofu or vegetables instead of meat.
