Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, then beat in the eggs and vanilla.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped apples and cinnamon until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for about 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Whisk together the egg yolks and sugar in a bowl for the custard sauce.
- Heat the milk in a saucepan until it is just below boiling, then slowly add it to the yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it thickens.
- Stir in the vanilla and cornstarch, and cook for another minute.
- Serve the cake warm with the custard sauce.
Notes
For best results, use fresh tart apples like Granny Smith. Allow the cake to cool before serving for optimal texture.
