Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons dry active yeast
  • ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • ½ cup confetti sprinkles
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • Additional confetti sprinkles (to garnish)


Instructions

  1. Sprinkle yeast over warm water and milk, add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir, then let sit for 5-7 minutes until bubbly.
  2. Incorporate the yeast mixture with the remaining sugar, egg, and egg yolk in a stand mixer bowl.
  3. Whisk salt into flour and add 2 cups to the mixer. Use the dough hook to mix, adding more flour gradually and softened butter until smooth.
  4. Add confetti sprinkles and mix until distributed.
  5. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 60 minutes).
  6. Punch down dough and roll into a rectangle.
  7. Spread softened butter on dough, mix filling ingredients (sugars, cinnamon), and sprinkle over dough.
  8. Roll into a log and cut into 12 pieces, placing them in a greased baking pan. Let rise covered for 30-45 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden.
  10. Beat cream cheese and butter, add powdered sugar until smooth for frosting.
  11. Spread on warm rolls and top with sprinkles.
