Ingredients
Scale
- 6 slices brioche or challah bread
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- Butter or cooking spray for greasing muffin tin
- Maple syrup, powdered sugar, or berries for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a standard muffin tin with butter or cooking spray.
- Cut each slice of bread into quarters.
- Press 3 to 4 bread pieces into each muffin cup, forming a cup shape.
- Whisk together eggs, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cups, allowing it to soak in.
- Press down lightly on the bread pieces to ensure they absorb the custard completely.
- Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Remove the muffin tin from the oven and let the cups cool slightly before taking them out.
- Serve warm, topped with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or berries.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption of the custard. You can make these ahead of time by assembling and baking later.
