Description

A warm, custardy casserole that combines bread, eggs, and spices, perfect for special breakfasts.


Ingredients

  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)


Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Place the cubed bread in the dish.
  3. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
  4. Pour the mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they are well soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning.
  7. Mix together the brown sugar and additional cinnamon in a small bowl.
  8. Sprinkle this mixture over the soaked bread.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  10. Serve warm, optionally with syrup or fresh fruit.
