- 8 slices of bread (cubed)
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup diced ham or Canadian bacon
- 1 cup shredded cheese (e.g., cheddar or Swiss)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup hollandaise sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh chives (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish.
- Place the cubed bread in the bottom of the greased baking dish.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread, making sure to soak the bread evenly.
- Add the diced ham and shredded cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
- Prepare the hollandaise sauce while the casserole is baking.
- Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Drizzle with hollandaise sauce and garnish with fresh chives.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use day-old bread for better texture. Don’t skip the hollandaise sauce, it’s the key to the dish!
