Description

A rich and creamy Italian dessert made with ladyfingers dipped in coffee and layered with mascarpone cheese.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Dark chocolate shavings (optional)


Instructions

  1. Whisk together egg yolks and sugar in a medium saucepan until pale and thick.
  2. Add milk and cook over medium heat until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Beat the heavy cream in a large bowl until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold in mascarpone cheese into the cooled egg mixture.
  6. Gently fold in whipped cream until combined.
  7. Combine coffee and coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
  8. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not mushy.
  9. Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish.
  10. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the top.
  11. Repeat with remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone.
  12. Cover and refrigerate for at least 240 minutes or overnight.
  13. Dust with cocoa powder and add dark chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

Best served chilled; may be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
