Ingredients

- 1 cup (240 ml) water
- 2 ½ tbsps (37.5 ml) sugar
- 2 tbsps (30 ml) vegetable oil
- ½ tsp (2.5 ml) salt
- 1 tsp (5 ml) ground cinnamon
- ½ cup (120 ml) granulated sugar
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Blend granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a medium bowl or paper bag to create a coating.
- Warm oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 375°F (190°C).
- Merge water, sugar, salt, and vegetable oil in a saucepan; bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Fold flour rapidly into the hot liquid until a smooth dough forms.
- Shape the dough into compact spheres with a spoon or small ice cream scoop and lower into hot oil in small batches.
- Fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per batch.
- Remove from oil and coat in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Serve warm as is or with chocolate or caramel dipping sauce.
Notes
For a diabetic-friendly version, consider using sugar substitutes like stevia, monk fruit, or allulose. Avoid honey or maple syrup as they affect blood sugar levels.
