Description

Discover the joy of baking this whimsical delight that combines the rich flavors of chocolate and fresh strawberries in a heart-shaped cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, melted
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • Fresh strawberries for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and buttermilk until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped strawberries gently into the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool completely in the pan before transferring it to a wire rack.
  8. For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer, then pour it over the melted chocolate and stir until smooth.
  9. Once the cake is cool, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  10. Decorate with fresh strawberries on top and let the ganache set before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the cake is completely cool before adding the ganache to prevent it from melting.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
