- 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add frozen butter, mixing until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in cherries.
- In a separate bowl, combine heavy cream, egg, vanilla, and almond extract.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
- Turn dough onto a floured surface, shaping it into a circle about 1 inch thick.
- Cut into wedges and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- For the glaze, whisk together confectioner’s sugar, 2 tablespoons heavy cream, and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract until smooth, drizzle over scones, and sprinkle with toasted almonds.
Notes
Use chilled ingredients for flakier scones. Don’t overmix the dough, and feel free to add zest or experiment with flavors.
