Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups buttermilk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, cold & cubed
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, garlic powder, and pepper in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in cheddar and chives until evenly distributed.
  4. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add buttermilk and stir until a sticky dough forms.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf, score an “X” on top, and place it on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serve warm.
