Ingredients

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking until they are soft and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. While the onions are cooking, butter one side of each slice of bread.
  4. Once the onions are caramelized, remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, place one slice of bread, buttered side down, and layer with cheese and caramelized onions.
  6. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
  7. Cook until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, flipping halfway through.
  8. Remove from heat, slice, and serve warm.
