Description

Delicious and crispy buttermilk fried chicken burgers that capture the essence of Southern comfort food.


Ingredients

  • 4 chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce, tomato, and other desired toppings


Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken in buttermilk for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  2. Mix in a bowl the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, letting excess drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture.
  5. Fry the chicken pieces until golden brown and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes per side.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing the fried chicken on a bun and adding lettuce, tomato, and any other desired toppings. Serve hot.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Frying yields better crispiness than baking, although baking can be an option.
