- 2 large sweet onions, cut into bite-sized petals
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (or plant-based)
- Oil for frying (or air fryer spray)
Instructions
- Cut onions into bite-sized pieces and soak in cold water for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix flour with garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
- In a second bowl, whisk eggs and milk.
- Drain and dry onions. Dip in egg wash, then dredge in flour mixture.
- For extra crunch, repeat the dip and dredge step.
- Fry in hot oil (350°F) for 2–3 minutes until golden, or air fry at 400°F for 8 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Drain on paper towels. Serve warm with dipping sauce.
Notes
For gluten-free: Use 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
Try chipotle mayo or ranch for dipping.
